Gilt-Edged Proposition

Now out in the country where I work my land
Not too many folk drop by
Living next door's like miles away
So that's a good reason why
To add to the troubles there's a drought going on
And the creeks not the only thing dry
There's no water in the tank no money in the bank
It's enough to make a country girl cry

Then out of the blue came the sound of a motor
More smooth than I've heard before
Turned up in the drive it was heading my way
So I perched in my front door
Now who the heck is this crossed through my mind
That's some cool motor for sure
It was getting close by so I cleared my eyes
To set myself for what was in store

I saw a gilt edged proposition
When he drove right to my door
A wide white smile and a husky hi
Caught my fancy that's for sure
And the car that he was driving was so damn long
It's still coming as he's shaking my hand
All a'trembling so I can't catch my breath
Through looking at a gilt edged man

I took a little drive in my brand new car
My gilt edged stranger said
I started out west and three days on
The morning sky turned red
I decided to keep driving til I reached that sky
And underneath it make my bed
Take a look behind you it's a'top of the roof
Of that falling down old farm shed

I don't mind camping beneath the stars
But the red sky spells big rain
It's gonna bucket down for a couple a days
At least and then again
Might last for a week fill up that creek
I told him it'd be best plan
To bed down underneath my roof
This wide smile gilt edged man

I saw a gilt edged proposition
When he parked right by my door
A wide white smile and a husky hi
Caught my fancy that's for sure
And the car that he was driving was so damn long
It's still coming as he's shaking my hand
All a'trembling so I can't catch my breath
Through looking at a gilt edged man

I saw a gilt edged proposition
I was grooving with a gilt edged man
Oh I saw a gilt edged proposition
I was grooving with a gilt edged man
